Row 1 (RS): knit.
Row 2 (WS): P1, *make star (purl 3 stitches together, leaving the stitches on the left-hand needle; wrap the yarn around the right-hand needle and purl the same 3 stitches again – you should have the same number of stitches), P1*; repeat until the end of the row.
Row 3: knit.
Row 4: P3, make star, *P1, make star*; repeat until the last 3 stitches, P3.
