2 balls of BEM-ME-QUER from Rosários 4, color 01 (60% cotton, 28% viscose, 12% linen; 100 gr/275 m).

NEEDLES

3 mm needles (if necessary, adjust the needle size to match the gauge).

GAUGE

21 sts and 15 garter ridges (30 rows) – 10×10 cm in garter stitch with 3 mm needle, washed and blocked (it’s important to wash and block your swatch in order to get the correct gauge). Note that the gauge is not indispensable for this garment, but variations will modify the yarn consumption as well as the final size.

This shawl is knitted in garter stitch with a “lace by music” edging pattern. Lace by music is just another way of writing lace edging patterns. It is very traditional in Portugal, and
we just use symbols to represent the yarn over and the decreases. It’s a very simple pattern which, I’m sure, you’ll memorize quickly and let the music guide you. We start with a few stitches and work increases to the half of the shawl, then decreases for the other half.
